The modern demographic situation in Russia is characterized by change quantitative and quality indicators. In this connection special value has studying of questions of social safety. When the society can provide nominal level social guarantees, thus one can speak of social safety. Level of social safety can be defined through system of social indicators, such as, crude death rate, infant mortality rate, and life expectancy and others. We use the following gradation of level of social safety: social crisis, social intensity, social stability and social well-being. We apply a method of linear scaling in order to calculate an integrated indicator of social safety for Russia in 2009. We have analyses social safety of Russia in following groups: at world level, in group of advanced countries, countries of Eastern Europe, the CIS and Baltic countries. Social safety of Russia is stable, if we consider against all countries of the world. It is social crisis, if we consider Russia as advanced countries as well as in group of the countries of Eastern Europe. It is social intensity among the CIS and Baltic countries. High mortality of the population, especially men's at working age, and low life expectancy are the leading reasons of low level social safety.
